One day while finishing up shopping at ALDI, my dad noticed an AD for a PC called a Medion MD 8825 Multimedia PC. We looked at the system specs. for the PC and it was pretty good...

AMD LIVE! PC Processor based on AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor
    Windows Vista Home Premium
ATI Radeon Xpress X1250 with HDMI, Supports HDCP
2GB System Memory, DDR2 SDRAM with 667 MHz, Dual Channel Memory
320 GB Segate SATA HDD, 8MB Cache, 7200 RPM
LG Multiformat Dual Layer CD/DVD-RW Writer
    8 Channel Onboard Surround Sound
    Gigabit LAN 10/100/1000 MBit/s
    Wirelass LAN 802.11 b/g up to 54MBit/s
    V.90 Modem

Looking at the stuff crammed into the PC, I was thinking that this thing has got to be well around $800-1000 dollars... But the thing is... The AD didn't say anything about the price of the PC.

I looked into the Medion USA website and the page gives me NOTHING about any of the products they make or where to get them.

Does anyone here have any information about this company or the price of this PC they're selling?

Mikedot, the ALDI just listed some information on the computer your asked about. It costs $499 (not includeing monitor) The flat-panel monitor they are offering with it goes for 169.99. Detailed info on the pc may be found here:

Pardon my typos in the previous post - I haven't had my morning coffee yet. The link should be good, though!

I purchased their previous media computer. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK.

Said computer was a significant waste of money that ended up in a closet.

The media parts are no name, the software is horrid and not designed for the US.

I spent hours waiting and trying to get answers from customer service to get things to work, I was told that the sofware was not good (blamed on me expecting to get useful software for free) and that I should find other software to use it. (cannot do that without a clue to the cards involved).

Advertised features turned out to need extra items, not work, not have any instructions for other equipment needed.

This soured me on the idea of a multimedia computer but now that digital TV is here and I have had a taste of using a DVR, I will be watching TigerDirect for suitable starting point and adding name brand components that will work with quality software. Their support has been great when I have had to call them.
It will cost a little more but it won't end up as an unused waste of money.

I don't know the parts of the current system but the one I bought back in 2003 had name brand components. See http://aldireview.niesens.com/medion-md8000/system-info.html .

Yes, that computer has given me trouble but so is the Dell Optiplex that I'm currently using. I install so much crap on top of it and use it in way to many ways that no matter what computer I'm using I'll probably encounter issues.

I also bought mine back in 2003 and love it. It never broke down and I must say run, don't walk next week to buy either desk top or laptop. These are a increditable price.
Wish I could buy the laptop. Wife won't let me.
As Cramer on cable tv would say, "BUY,BUY,BUY".

I sat hear and read all your comments on the new Medion 8825 and must put in my 2 cents worth. I been in the computer industry since day 1, and owned alot of desktops and laptops from all the BIG COMPANIES, and can honestly say without any reservations that if you are looking for a GREAT deal on a full functioned desktop or laptop, THIS IS IT! I am still using the last Aldi desktop and monitor, from Medion back in 2003, as a matter of fact, out of the 5 computers in my home at this time, the Medion is MY Main PC. It has never let me down on it's own, RUNS 24/7, and is in my opinion, THE BEST ALL AROUND DESKTOP I HAVE EVER OWNED!!! It's overall performance has, time after time, put all my other units to shame. So when Aldi premiered the new MD-8825, I was first in line at my nearest store and purchased not only the desktop, but the new 19" flat-panel also. Now I'm starting to have problems with one of my BIG NAME laptops , so I'm going to purchase the Medion laptop also. So take it from me, a Medion PC owner from Day 1, DON'T PASS UP THE DEAL ON THE MEDION 8825 PC OR LAPTOP!!!
